Children achieve more when schools and parents work together. Parents can help more effectively if they know what the school is trying to achieve and how they can help. Research carried out by Feinstein and Symon in 1999 found that children of parents showing high levels of interest in their schooling can progress between 15-17% more in maths and reading between the ages of 11 and 16 as compared to pupils whose parents showed no interest.
The ParentsCentre website is for all parents and carers who want to help their child or children to learn. It is there to offer support, information and advice about their child's learning and the English education system.
The Impact of Parental Involvement in Children's Education is an A5 leaflet showing research evidence which highlights the importance of the involvement of parents in their children's education. This can be downloaded from the Publications section of the Parent Centre website.
The Parental Involvement section of the Standards Site provides case studies of how parents have been successfully involved in out of school hours activities.
