Teacher Research Conference 2006
At the NEC Birmingham on 14 March 2006 the National Teacher Research Panel (NTRP) hosted and presented their 3rd biennial Teacher Research & Enquiry Conference:
This exciting event, Learning Teachers, presented for, with and by practitioners, aimed to explore how engagement in and with research and evidence contributes to professional learning.
Hundreds of classroom teachers and school leaders met to learn from the very best of teacher engagement in and with research, accompanied by colleagues who provide support in HEIs and LEAs.
The conference facilitated a day of learning from research and evidence, space and time for professional dialogue and a 'big picture' look at how many different kinds of enquiry and research are informing teaching and learning in school contexts.
CONFERENCE THEMES
Although we aimed to be as inclusive as possible, we targeted the urgent and practical concerns of teachers, including:
- Pedagogical processes
- Curriculum issues
- Diversity in learning
- Continuing Professional Development
- School improvement and leadership
- Innovation and capacity building
WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS
Attendance at the Conference was free and participants received a range of resources. They were able to:
- take part in seminars led by teachers exploring the very best of teacher research
- swap experiences of enquiry activity with others
- engage in workshops with teachers moving to more systematic forms of research
- learn with leading national and international researchers
- work with colleagues in an interactive research fair
- use our Research Surgery to answer burning questions about your own and others' research
- use our Writing Surgery to access expert advice on research writing and dissemination
This follow up conference to the highly successful event in 2004 was presented by the National Teacher Research Panel and supported by the DfES, the GTC, the NCSL and the DfES Innovation Unit. 75% of the places were reserved for serving teachers and headteachers.
500 people attended the conference and summaries of the workshops will be available shortly.
